The picture to the right was taken by Linda on the coast of The Big Island of Hawaii close to her property. It's easy to see where she gets her inspiration from.
I am asked all the time, "Why Sea Dream Jewelry"? The answer is simple, I am always dreaming about the sea and when I can take my next dive vacation. Much of my work is inspired by the oceans of the world and the Hawaiian Islands. There is just such a diversity of sites. Nothing is more stimulating then to sit on a beautiful beach with your toes all warm in the sand. The trade-winds are rustling through the palm trees while you are looking out into the Pacific and then all of a sudden a humpback whale launches itself from the depths and flies through the air crashing back to the waters. The only way to describe the feeling is magic and I try to bring some of that magic back to my work. My whole life has been spent expressing myself through different forms of art: photography, drawing, cooking, painting, even fixing things around the house. While taking art courses at the local college, I decided to give the metals course a try. That was it; I was hooked and never looked back. The very first piece of jewelry I ever made was a mermaid pin, the second a pendant of a seahorse. That seahorse eventually became the idea behind the logo for Sea Dream Jewelry. My work is now in galleries and boutiques in Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Tennessee, California and Hawaii. Of course you can always find it her at the website.
Working with sterling silver is a passion for me. I also work in other mediums, gold, gold fill wire, PMC clay, copper, brass and just about any other thing I can possible think to use; however, I have the most fun trying to get sheets and wires of sterling silver to turn into the ideas I have in my head.
I do not know what the future holds for Sea Dream Jewelry, but I am truly enjoying my adventure in the realm of wearable art and hope I can bring some magic into yours.
Sincerely,
Linda Laughlin
